Menu Magazine - My First Issue WOOT WOOT!!!!

Yay I'm so excited Issue Seven of Menu Magazine is out on news stands come this Friday. Why the excitement? Well it's my first issue as Editor of the mag and I'm oh so proud of it.

You see for the last few years I've freelanced at several publications as well as working as a tough-talking journo (well sort of) at a semi-regional paper. It's been fun. I've covered many different topics from sport, lifestyle and hard news loving every minute of it (well most times). There's nothing like the rush a reporter gets when getting the "scoop" before anyone else does, writing about it and then seeing it in print, so imagine my joy after seeing my very first publication hot off the press!!! There's no way to describe but pure BLISS!!!

So in a nutshell here's the download on what readers can expect in Issue 7, reviews on some of the best cafe & restaurants in Perth, our regular health, cocktails and industry columns and reviews on the latest cds and books on offer. We've also looked at the truffles - the ultimate flavour enhancer, kid connoisseurs who prefer more than just the run of the mill menu options available for children and a chance for readers to win a trip for two to Malaysia. Find us at the Every Woman Expo this Friday June 26 to Sunday June 28 at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre as we launch Issue 7 of Menu Magazine, with the food revolution taking Australia by storm it would be a crime to miss it - BUON APPETITE!!!!!

It's On - My 12 week Challenge!!

- ME TODAY (In my winter uniform - J-LO velour tracksuit)
It's been a couple of weeks since my last blog...but there's a reason for my tardiness. I started my 12 Week Challenge and I'm on a mission to get myself fit and healthy over the winter months. It's fair to say that since my BIG DAY in March, becoming a food editor and watching Masterchef I've let myself go (3KGS in 3months to be exact)!!! If I keep going at this rate I will be 12 kilos heavier on my first wedding anniversary - NOT ON PEOPLE!!!

I know some women don't mind piling on the pounds after they've nabbed their man and after months of vigorous exercise and torturous diets who can blame them but not this little red hen - I'm keen to become a lean, mean HEALTHY MACHINE!!!

So this is the plan, I've signed up to a fantastic gym only 2mins away from home and rain, hail or shine I will be using it. I signed up for three months (the perfect way to hibernate during winter)and I'm making sure I eat heaps of fruit, vegies and protein and coming from a carbaholic it will be difficult to have my meat and veg without rice/pasta/potatoes etc but I'm sure I'll survive (with your help of course).

You see the point of this post is to keep me accountable and if I put it out there I know you will all keep me in check. I'd love to hear your thoughts so please feel free to drop me an email and here's to the next 11 weeks!!!!!

I did it!

Ok guys so I did it. It's gone never to return again. Did what, I hear you ask - I chopped it all off (my hair that is) and I'm a new woman! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I can now move on to bigger and brighter things.

It is amazing what a new do can do for a woman. It releases things in her that she never knew was possible. Take this for instance, since cutting my hair all off I have devised several plans in the hope to relaunch a refreshed and revitalised new me.

I've had a few goals in the pipeline that I'm looking at starting and with this new hair do I feel I can take on the world - silly I know but it really does feel that way.

I met up with my bff the other day and she too agreed that when she revamped her look she felt more confident and thus was ready to face any challenge she was hit with.

Me, well I've got a month off work and am going to use my time wisely to get things happening.

First up: signing up to the gym! After the Bikram Yoga debacle I'm sticking to what I know best and that's working out along with pool and sauna. Can't wait!

Until next time let me know what you think of my new do and if this sort of thing happens to you too - I'd love to hear from you.

Ciao : )

Leggings - Not pants People!!!!!

I read a great article by Claire Davies in yesterday's STM Magazine re my latest pet hate - leggings worn as pants! It went something like this: Leggings with butt on show only to the gym, Leggings covered by tunic or dress - chic combination.

I don't know what is happening lately but as winter approaches and the extra kilos pile on it seems I'm seeing more and more women opting to wear leggings as pants. They are on show everywhere at shopping centres, movies and even dinner on a Saurday night, next time you're out and about make sure you take note.

OK so listen up ladies here is the lowdon, leggings are not to be worn as a staple item but as an accessory similiar to a bag or a scarf and in my opinion they are best worn beneath a tunics, dresses, oversized tees/shirts or even skirts. Never ever under any circumstance should they be worn with shorter-style t-shirts, jackets or God forbid the crop-top (who the heck wears these anyway)!

In finishing the two little rules to remember:
1. Leggings with singlets and shorter style tops great for working out and must only be seen at gyms or during outdoor EXERCISE activities.
2. Leggings as an accessory only I repeat only under TUNICS, DRESSES, OVERSIZED TEES. For a great winter look team them up with boots, tunic and scarf - PERFECTO!

Do not follow Lindsay's lead and wear leggings with a little top - WRONG!
